As of this morning, KOMIKSTRIP only has 10 tables left (and that may change later today as I write this).

The Komiks Veterans have taken tables 28 and 29 and Sir Orvy Jundis has taken tables 30 and 31. You guys are in for a rare treat, seeing the masters of Filipino Komiks in action giving sketches and demos. If we're lucky, they'll have some of their artworks also up for display.

Andrew Villar, creator of the Ambush Comics Strip serialized in Manila Bulleting, is releasing Hari: Ang Hero na Emo the director's cut and launching it at the upcoming KOMIKSTRIP happening this February 19, 2011 Saturday at the New CAS Annex 2 in UPLB.

Finding new markets for your COMIC BOOK!

One of the challenges for any comic book creator just starting out is finding new people who will read your comics. A comic creator with a comic book with no readers is pretty much like a guy all dressed up with nowhere to go.

This is one of the reasons most indie creators take to the convention circuit.

A relatively new phenomenon, comic book conventions have begun springing up giving comic book creators new opportunities to reach out and find new fans for their work. Even more promising, comic book conventions have also been happening outside Metro Manila such as in Cebu, San Pablo, and Naga to name a few.

One of these conventions happening outside the Metro is the KOMIKSTRIP.

KOMIKSTRIP is UPLB’s very own comic book convention happening this coming February 19, 2011 Saturday at the New CAS Annex 2. The 2011 KOMIKSTRIP promises to be bigger and better with more activities for comic book fans and the casual reader alike.

COMIC ODYSSEY comes to UPLB!

I just got word that Comic Odyssey will be getting four (4) tables for the 2011 KOMIKSTRIP, possibly more.

Comic Odyssey stores are the only specialty comic shops in the Philippines that "truly" caters to the comics market, serving comic fans in the Philippines since June 1997. They stock over 300 monthly new comic titles from all the major comic publishers including lots of independent small press titles and that includes Pinoy indie comics!

Comic Odyssey also carries a wide range of assorted graphic novels and trade paperbacks with over 5,000 to choose from. They specialize in back issue comics with an extensive selection of over 30,000 individual back issues dating back from the early 1960's to present. They also carry comics related merchandise such as action figures, limited edition statues, and collectible card games (CCGs) mainly Magic the Gathering, Yu-gi-oh, and Pokemon. KOMIKSTRIP PRE-EVENTS

Digital Comic Production Workshops
The digital comic production workshop features a short course on the use of Adobe Photoshop in comic book production. Participants will be given an overview on the role of Photoshop in modern comic book production as well as an introduction to line work clean up, digital coloring, and lettering.

24-hour Comic Book Challenge Trading Card Edition
The 24-hour comic challenge tasks participants to create 24 pages of comics in 24 hours. We modified the challenge for the KOMIKSTRIP, however. Participants will tell a story in 24 pages revolving around a theme but using only trading card size boards. These stories will then be put on exhibit at the KOMIKSTRIP.

KOMIKSTRIP HIGLIGHTS

Comic Art Exhibit
The exhibit will be featuring original comic book artworks from the Philippine Online Comics Art Museum by Gerry Alanguilan as well as stunning new work from the current generation of comic book creators.

Kosplay Parade
The Kosplay Parade aims to bring more awareness about our own local comic characters by having local cosplayers do a parade around UPLB attired as different original Filipino comic book characters.

Pintados: Comic Book Making Body Painting Contest
The Pintados: Comic Book Making Body Painting Contest brings comic book appreciation to new heights by creating comic books on the greatest canvas of all, the human body.

Motion Comics Contest
Motion comics are a new way to bring attention to comic books. They are moving versions of the comic books using very simple motion with modern film making editing and voice acting. The motion comic exhibition will feature short original comics stories.

KomiksTrip is UPLB's very own comic book convention presented by the UP BUGKOS and JONASDIEGO.COM in cooperation with the Graphic Literature Guild and the UP Painters' Club happening this coming February 19, 2011, Saturday at the new CAS Annex at the University of the Philippines in Los Banos (UPLB) in Laguna.

The KomiksTrip is an event conceptualized by UP Bugkos and Jonas Diego and was the first comic book convention in UPLB. The convention aims to bring together comic book creators, retailers, publishers, and the fans under one roof united for their common love of Komiks.

KomiksTrip’s organizers and partners share a common vision of contributing to the rise of the Komiks Industry by achieving the following:

1. Stimulating commercial and creative activity for local comic books.
2. Creating awareness of the medium through workshops, activities, and events.
3. Providing a venue for various stakeholders in the comic community to get together, network, and find a bigger audience for their work.
4. Find and feature local talent.

You’re thinking that while you wanna sell your indies, toys, and merchandize at the KOMIKSTRIP you probably won’t be able to afford the exhibitor’s fee and get a table. Those tables are more affordable than you think.

Each table measuring 1 meter X 1 meter is going for only Php 500.00!
